Two little monkeys

Nelia loves Curious George:) She especially loves when he talks to her and when he tries to tickle her belly. She just laughs and laughs.  Last night they were even having a staring contest with one another.

*Please ignore the massive amount of drool on her shirt:)

I got you Curious George:)

A bit off the subject, but for all you moms out there with little ones, Patrick discovered a fun "game" last night that kept Nelia entertained for about a half hour.  She was laying down on her back and he basically ripped up an entire magazine over her. She thought it was so fun! Here is evidence of the magazine:)

Thanksgiving 2009

Nelia's first Thanksgiving was wonderful!  We celebrated with Grandpa Roy and Uncle Brent, which was perfect.  It is really important to Patrick and I that we were able to celebrate Nelia's first holidays at home.  We are really looking forward to starting new traditions as a family of three (well five, if you include the furbabies) and love that we have family that is here to celebrate with us!

Nelia had two Thanksgiving outfits:) The first was a 'Baby's First Thanksgiving' onesie and pants with little turkeys on them. The second was a sweater dress with matching tights. So cute!  I wish we would have taken more pictures, but we were too busy cooking and eating:)

Checking out the turkeys on her pants:)

We made quite the feast: rosemary roasted turkey, creamy mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, fruit salad, deviled eggs, rolls, sausage, cranberry, and apple stuffing, pumpkin pie, and pecan pie. Everything was delicious!  Patrick created some yummy drinks too - a cranberry martini and an apple martini.  I even had a few sips of the cranberry martini to celebrate. Yum!  We were all stuffed after dinner!

Check out the 'Eiffel Tower' egg, made by Uncle Brent:)

Nelia joined us for a little while at the dinner table in the Bumbo, but she was pretty tired so we put her down for a nap after dinner.  She enjoyed watching us eat dinner, although I think she really wanted to eat too.

She had a great time visiting with Uncle Brent - she just loves him and he is so great with her! And she spent some quality time with her Grandpa who she is warming up to quite a bit and even had a few smiles for him.

It was a great day!  We are so thankful for many things this year, but we are especially thankful for our amazing daughter. She brings so much happiness to our life and truly completes our family. It is hard to believe that just last Thanksgiving we shared the news of our pregnancy with our family and now she is here and bringing so much joy to all of our lives.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of our blog followers - our family and friends:)

Happy 5 months - November 25, 2009

Well little Nuggie, you are now 5 months old!  Nuggie is one of our favorite nicknames for you:)  Your daddy joked the other day and said that hopefully you don't think Nuggie is your real name.

Sweet Nelia Jane you are truly the light of our lives - we love you sooooo much!  Thinking about how much I love you brings tears to my eyes.  You are just such an amazing little girl. We are truly blessed:)

At 5 months, you weigh about 15lbs, 6oz and are probably close to 27 inches (you are really tall!).  We haven't started solids yet, but plan to next month.  In the meantime you are still nursing every 2-3 hours during the day.  You are now wearing a size 2 diaper. Most of your onesies/tops are 3-6 months, but you definitely wear 6-12 month pants and pajamas. Your silly mama bought you a bunch of 6 month sleepers after you outgrew all of your 3 month sleepers in about two weeks and now you are about to grow out of your 6 month sleepers!  I need to buy you some 9 month sleepers now.  You are growing so fast - a bit too fast for my liking:)Your face is chubbing up and you have the cutest chubby cheeks that I just love to smooch!  You were born with a full head of hair and unfortunately it is starting to fall out a bit in the back:(  It will grow back soon enough though!  You are still sleeping through the night (thank goodness) and take naps during the day every 2-3 hours.  Naps are becoming a bit more of a struggle, but we aren't sure if that is correlated with teething.  We still have to bounce you on the exercise ball to get you to sleep, but this afternoon (11/27) you fell asleep all by yourself!!!  Lets hope this continues:)

It is bittersweet watching you grow - in many ways I want you to stay a baby forever, but at the same time I love watching you learn and witnessing different milestones you are reaching on an almost daily basis.  You are absolutely OBSESSED with rolling - it is getting nearly impossible to change your diaper or your clothes.  As soon as you are on your back you are trying to roll over.  It is like a workout changing your diaper:)  You also sat for the first time without any support on November 14th - that was pretty exciting!  You have become increasingly observant and love watching everything that is going on around you.  You respond really well to your name and always react to both me and your daddy when you hear us in the room.  You love watching the cats and grabbing at their fur.  Mona isn't too sure about you and usually runs away, but surprisingly Roary is very patient with you (and even gives you kisses every once in awhile).

You have grown to really love the baby bjorn (carrier), but only if you are facing outwards.  Today we went to the mall and you were having such a blast, talking and making fun sounds.  You like to try to touch all the clothes too:) Speaking of which, you are grabbing at everything.  If we put a toy in front of you, you always reach for it.  Your favorite toy is still your fingers though - they are ALWAYS in your mouth.  You are always drooling - often you have several wardrobe changes in one day:) You also love your sunshine rattle.  You recently discovered your feet, but they aren't nearly as fun as your hands right now.

We have discovered some other things that you really love.  You always laugh when we kiss your belly. You love when we blow on your face, like you are at the ocean.  You enjoy looking at yourself in the mirror and have recently started smiling at yourself - it is quite cute.  The exersaucer is becoming very fun - you have even figured out how to push the buttons so you can hear the animal sounds and music.

Bath time is still lots of fun, although you are getting so big that water splashes everywhere. You are always happy in your bath though and it is fun for your mommy and daddy to bathe you together.  Daddy took you in the big bathtub for the first time on November 17th. You didn't really know what to think about it, but you seemed happy.

You are a pretty happy girl most of the time:) We think you might be a bit shy - you are usually pretty quiet if you around other people.  You are smiling a lot more, but you are still a bit selective.  We are excited to see how your personality evolves over the coming months and years.  There aren't many things that you don't like- you still don't like the car and if you are hungry, you get impatient quickly.

We celebrated your Uncle Brent's birthday at your grandma's house in Glacier - that was a long drive, but we are so glad we went! You celebrated your first Halloween, which was lots of fun! You also celebrated your first Thanksgiving (post and pictures to come!).  We have been on lots of playdates this month - to Grace's house, to the mall several times with different friends, Target, and lunch.  Melissa came to visit us from Spokane and to meet you for the first time - you two hit it off!  You have gone out to dinner many times with mommy and daddy - our new favorite place to take you is to sushi:)  We saw many of mommy's friends from school at Vivian's house for a lumpia-making party.  We had the Swanson's over for brunch at the beginning of the month - they are great friends.  They also shared some special news with us - in April you will have a new baby friend!!!!! Yayyyy!  Congrats Swansons:) We attended Aaron's 2nd birthday party and we discovered that you really like balloons.  It has been a fun month!

Happy 5 months Nelia!  You are such a delight!  We love you and are so proud of you!

It is so hard getting you to smile, especially when I have that big, huge, scary camera up to my face

Trying to eat your monkey:)

Adventures in babysitting:)

Yesterday I got to babysit Grace while Stephanie went to a hair appointment. We had so much fun!  Grace came over wearing an outfit that Nelia also has (they are such twins!) so of course I had to dress Nelia in the same outfit for a photo shoot:)  They thought I was crazy, but I had fun.  Grace is such a good, happy baby, which made things pretty easy.  It was definitely a glimpse into what it would be like to have twins.  The hardest part was trying to figure out how to get both of them upstairs or vice versa - carrying both of them at the same time would have been impossible!  Oh, and since they were on opposite schedules I had to put Nelia down for a nap while keeping Grace distracted by the bouncer, except that Grace was having such a great time talking and making noises that Nelia wouldn't go to sleep, lol:)  She did eventually fall asleep though. It was a fun day! I was exhausted though - Nelia and I took a nap together later in the afternoon to recover from all the fun:)

I am so happy that Stephanie and I have become such good mommy friends - it is nice to have someone close by who you completely trust with your baby.

I have a feeling these two are going to be friends for a very long time:)

Playtime!

This next series of pictures cracks me up! And no, Grace is not laying face-down, although she kind of appears to be:) It seems like they are having quite the conversation!

Nelia's first bath in the big bathtub!

Last night we decided to give Nelia a bath in the big bathtub.  She is getting so big that when she splashes in her baby bathtub it gets the entire kitchen floor wet:)  So we thought she would enjoy splashing around in the big bathtub.  She didn't really know what to think about it though - she mostly just sat there and watched Mona and me.  Perhaps she will get more used to it with time - and once we have fun bath toys in there for her to play with!

Of course one of the best parts of bathtime is afterwards when she gets to roll all over the place naked:)  Silly girl!

Sitting pretty:)

Nelia sat without support for the first time on 11/14/09! I love being able to experience and witness all of these milestones with her.  It is just so incredible to watch her grow and change everyday.

Nelia - weeks 19 and 20

Hanging out in my new jumperoo! Nelia hasn't quite figured out how to jump, but she definitely enjoys looking at all the new toys and listening to the music.

All bundled up for a walk

Hanging out with Uncle Brent who always makes Nelia smile:)

This pink thing goes over her carseat to protect her from the wind/cold weather, but she wasn't a fan of it. Made for some cute pictures though:)  She was getting ready to go on a walk with daddy.

Upside down baby!

With Auntie Melissa

Melissa is one of my best friends from Spokane. She came to visit this weekend and met Nelia for the first time. The two of them hit it off! Nelia loved her:)  Melissa and I were able to spend some girly time in Bellevue at the Bravern for some shopping, lunch, and yummy cupcakes from Trophy while Nelia stayed home with daddy.

This picture pretty much sums up what Nelia spends much of the day doing - sucking on her fingers! They are constantly in her mouth.
